Florida State football doesn’t usually recruit players in the Midwest, let alone the state of Nebraska. It was different when Mike Norvell landed freshman tight end Chase Loftin.
According to 247 Sports, Loftin was the No. 2 player in Nebraska and 47th overall in the 2025 class.
Throughout his recruiting process, FSU was all over the Omaha native after offering him last January. After taking his visit, he verbally committed to the Seminoles last summer.
While Norvell made some coaching changes, including hiring coaches from the Nebraska staff, Loftin remained loyal to FSU and signed in December despite the Cornhuskers’ late push.
“Coach Norvell and I have always had a pretty good relationship, and one thing that stuck out to me is that he made me a priority. Throughout the recruiting process I could tell those things,” Loftin said.
“So having him show show to me that I was a priority was really important, and nothing’s changed. He’s hard on me. He’s hard on me. It’s hard on everyone.”
Loftin said on Tuesday that his relationship with the coaching staff was the main reason he chose to play for the Seminoles.
“I felt way closer to staff here than any other place, and also my parents, my whole family, was being like, supportive with me coming halfway across the country play,” Loftin said.
“My parents also noticed that this coaching staff was a little bit different, and they really like making an important part of themselves to build relationships with the recruits and now as a player. It’s definitely great.”
