Penn State unveils new images of Beaver Stadium renovations

Penn State Athletics on Thursday offered a first glimpse of what a renovated Beaver Stadium will look like from the inside, including the new-look west stands.

University officials said the $700 million stadium renovation has entered the next phase of work on the west side of the historic stadium. Following the 2024 football season, demolition began with the press box and the removal of the upper deck and several ground-level structures.

When the renovation project is completed in 2027, PSU athletic officials said they expect Beaver Stadium will maintain a capacity of more than 100,000. The artist’s rendering of the new western part of the stadium includes a main bowl — which was not part of the demolition last month — and three decks above it, with a mix of suites and boxes separating the decks.

Football game day parking and tailgating are not anticipated to be limited during renovations. The construction footprint will be expanded during the off-season but will shrink to accommodate football game day parking in-season.

“The improvements we made on the east side following the 2023 season have enhanced fan experience and circulation throughout the building,” Pat Kraft, Penn State’s athletics director, said. “Our next phase will modernize the west side of Beaver Stadium while maintaining its historic roots. As we continue to make these changes, we only further enhance our stadium, making it one of the most intimidating places to play in the country.”

According to the university, between 800 and 1,000 tradespeople are working on the project each summer and 450 workers are on-site daily at the peak of the project.
