Not only did Notre Dame football have an extremely successful season, it did what many other top teams couldn’t accomplish, getting true freshman valuable minutes.
According to Pro Football Focus, the Irish were fourth in the country in minutes played by first-year players, as just one other College Football Playoff team was able to accomplish this in Clemson. The Tigers were ousted in the first-round while Notre Dame made it all the way to the championship game.
Cornerback Leonard Moore led the charge, earning Freshman All-American honors, while running back Aneyas Williams, linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, defensive end Bryce Young, offensive tackle Anthonie Knapp and safety Kennedy Urlacher were some that flashed at points during the season.
This is important for multiple reasons, as when young players see the field early, they are much less likely to enter the transfer portal. On top of that, getting them valuable minutes for their development will help in the coming seasons.
Hats off the head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff for making sure the true-freshman see the field with a purpose.
