There has been a string of news regarding LSU football quarterbacks in recent weeks. Nothing major, as starter Garrett Nussmeier remains in place, but two new names have joined the fold. Those additions came after LSU saw movement in the transfer portal, losing two quarterbacks and adding another.
Along with the personnel changes, we got an update from head coach Brian Kelly on the status of quarterback Colin Hurley following his car crash last month.
Kelly said Hurley remains in Jacksonville, but “progress is real.”
Kelly said conversations with Hurley’s father were positive, but it’s a day-to-day situation, and there is not a timetable for his return.
Hurley was originally a member of the 2025 recruiting class before reclassifying to 2024. He’s only 17, so LSU has left his health updates under the guidance of the family.
Today, we’ll look at where the room stands after new additions and Hurley’s recovery.
LSU adds a three-star from Louisiana
LSU did not sign a scholarship quarterback out of high school in its 2025 recruiting class. The Tigers spent most of the cycle focused on five-star Bryce Underwood, and LSU didn’t have many options when Underwood flipped to Michigan.
However, LSU did add Emile Picarella to the roster in a walk-on role.
Picarella hails from University Lab High School in Baton Rouge. He won’t have to travel far to make it to LSU. According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Picarella is a three-star recruit and the No. 83 ranked quarterback in the class.
LSU needed numbers in the QB room, especially given the uncertain status of Hurley. Picarella gives LSU another competent arm with talent.
