A former Nebraska wide receiver has been hired as a college football coach. Former Husker Jordan Westerkamp has been hired as the wide receivers coach for the College of DuPage Chaparrals.
Westerkamp played at Nebraska from 2012 to 2016. He ended his Nebraska career appearing in 48 games while recording 167 receptions for 2,474 yards and 18 touchdowns. The Illinois native would be named second-team All-Big Ten in 2015 and third-team All-Big Ten in 2016.
Following his Nebraska career, he went undrafted in the 2017 NFL draft. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins but was waived with an injury settlement. He also spent time with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL, the Atlanta Legends of the now-defunct AAF, and the DC Defenders of the then-XFL.
He is best remembered for his performance on Nov. 2, 2013, against the Northwestern Wildcats. With Nebraska trailing 24-21 with four seconds left in the fourth quarter and the ball at the Northwestern 49-yard line, Westerkamp would catch a Hail Mary score from Ron Kellogg III to win the game.
Westerkamp will join a College of DuPage program coming off their fourth straight NJCAA Division III Football Championship. The Chaparrals defeated Louisburg (N.C.) College in the NJCAA Division III Football Championship at the Red Grange Bowl.
The program joins North Dakota State (NCAA – FCS), which won five straight from 2011-15, Augustana (NCAA – Division III) from 1983-1986, and Carroll College (NAIA) from 2002-05 as the only football programs to win four straight national titles.
