UCF Knights football: 5 notes from Scott Frost’s 1st press conference since December

ORLANDO — Now the fun part begins for Scott Frost.

A two-month whirlwind of evaluating players in the NCAA transfer portal, hitting the road to recruit and assembling a coaching staff is finally over. UCF will have another few weeks of strength training and conditioning before hitting the field for the start of spring camp, Frost’s first since being rehired as the school’s football coach.

“I actually get to be a coach now,” Frost said. “It’s been fun for me the last week and a half to get back around the players and start what is the beginning of a lot of work that we have to do to get the team where we want it to be. Excited to be back in Orlando and enjoying it already.

“The first five weeks were intense. There was no catching up. In this era of college football, you land and immediately have to start putting a team together in the transfer portal. My life was 6 in the morning ’til midnight, falling asleep with my phone in my hand for five weeks just trying to get a team put together.”

Frost met with the media for the first time since his introductory press conference Dec. 8 and addressed some of the key questions that have lingered throughout the offseason — from his coordinator choices, to the return of McKenzie Milton, to the roster additions via the portal and February high school signing period.

Scott Frost plans to call offensive plays

Scott Frost went 19-7 in two seasons as UCF football coach from 2016-17 before departing for Nebraska, his alma mater.
