ESPN basketball analyst Rece Davis said there are three SEC teams equipped to win the national championship this year, but it’ll be tough for the Crimson Tide if it’s going home with Alabama basketball.
Before taking Tuscaloosa on Saturday with his “College GameDay” cohosts, Davis broke down his picks to take it all in April and where Alabama (21-3, 10-1 SEC) stands among them. Bias didn’t factor in for the UA alum, though.
“Two of them will play here tomorrow. The other one’s Florida,” Davis said.

Still, Davis shared the same hesitance of college hoops fans who have laid eyes on the No. 1 Crimson Tide this year.
“They can do it. It’s a question of, will they?” Davis said.

He thinks the 2024-25 Auburn team is the “best” that he’s seen “from start to finish,” but reminded that doesn’t mean they’re “unbeatable, as Florida proved.”
Davis evaluated No. 5 Duke, and clarified Auburn (22-2, 10-1 SEC) is “better than them.”
“This is a high level team, and so is Alabama,” Davis said of the Tigers. “Alabama can win the national championship for sure, but that’s not going to be an easy task for whoever does it.”
After Auburn, Alabama’s schedule still holds Missouri, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Florida. Then, the Crimson Tide closes out the regular season on the Plains on Mar. 8.
