Texas A&M’s recruiting strategy in the Lone Star State under head coach Mike Elko starts and ends with his growing relationship within the Texas high school coaching circle, something Jimbo Fisher failed to take advantage up during his Aggie coaching career.
This offseason, Texas A&M’s 2026 recruiting class has seen its share of gains and losses, including two recent decommitments from four-star tight Xavier Tiller and three-star cornerback Ryan Gilbert last week. However, the Aggies landed a commitment from New Jersey native and four-star defensive lineman Jermaine Kinsler, who brings a lot of potential to the table.
Elko’s emphasis on adding more beef along the defensive line should pay dividends, as in-state 2026 four-star DL Jamarion Carlton has placed Texas A&M in his Top 6 program list, joining Texas, LSU, SMU, Baylor and USC. Right now, the Longhorns remain in the lead, but this is good news for Texas A&M’s defensive staff, as DL coaches Sean Spencer and Tony Jerod-Eddie will keep the communication line open.
Carlton is as gifted as they come, possessing the size, strength, and versatility to play at EDGE or add weight and shift inside to the 3-tech spot.
During his 2024 junior season, Carlton recorded 57 tackles, five sacks, 11 tackles for loss, three pass break ups and a forced fumble.
