Alabama basketball might not have to go another week without Derrion Reid.
Crimson Tide fans were surprised to see the freshman listed as questionable before the 103-80 win at Texas, but Reid was ultimately ruled out before tipoff.
On Friday, Alabama coach Nate Oats said Reid has looked “a lot better than he has at any point in the last month.” And as a result, Reid will be monitored before it’s determined at game time whether he’ll sit out again — for what would be his first Iron Bowl matchup.

INJURY UPDATE: Nate Oats expects Latrell Wrightsell Jr. to return for Alabama basketball, and here’s how
A NEW ERA: Can Nate Oats make Alabama a basketball school? Or does football loom too large?
For Auburn, Oats said that Reid would likely be a “game-time decision.”
“Derrion’s finally been able to do some live stuff in practice. He was able to do some live stuff today. We’ll see how he looks tomorrow morning,” Oats said on Friday.
After Arkansas, Oats said the five-star prospect out of Prolific Prep (Napa, CA) would be “game-to-game” indefinitely. In the weeks before, Reid was rebounding from an injury that saw his right foot booted ahead of taking the bench for South Dakota State in December.
Still on injured reserve for the No. 1 Crimson Tide are Houston Mallette (knees) and Latrell Wrightsell, Jr. (Achilles tendon).
With ESPN’s “College GameDay” in Coleman Coliseum, Alabama (21-3, 10-1 SEC) faces off against No. 2 Auburn (22-2, 10-1 SEC) at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
