Despite having another year of eligibility in his hand, Penn State kicker Sander Sahaydak has opted to move on from football entirely, according to a report this week. Lions247 reports Sahadak will walking away from football after not appearing in the NCAA transfer portal.
Sahaydak was a top-rated kicking recruit for Penn State in the Class of 2021 but he had some struggles along the way that led to him being unable to establish himself as a reliable kicking asset. He stuck with the team through the 2024 season, although he did not travel with the team for road games in the second half of the season after losing the starting place-kicking job following some early-season misses.
According to a report from Lions247, Sahaydak is expected to pursue a career playing golf, another one of his favorite sports.
Penn State special teams coordinator Justin Kustig previously announced and confirmed the return of Penn State’s special teams starters, which made the departure of Sahaydak seem pretty likely one way or another. Penn State is expected to return kickers Ryan Barker and Gabe Nwosu, punter Riley Thompson, and long-snapper Tyler Duzansky next season. Barker typically handled field goals and extra points for Penn State and Nwosu handled kickoff duties.
