WEST LAFAYTETTE — Purdue football coach Barry Odom’s offensive and defensive coordinators will both make more than $1 million annually for the first time, per details of their first Boilermakers contracts.
Offensive coordinator Josh Henson agreed to a three-year contract which pays $1.1 million this season, $1.2 million for 2026 and $1.3 million for 2027. Defensive coordinator Mike Scherer will make $1 million this season, $1.1 million in 2026 and $1.2 million in 2027.
That make them the highest-paid Purdue assistants ever, in terms of base salary. Under previous head coach Ryan Walters, offensive coordinator Graham Harrell made $950,000 and defensive coordinator Kevin Kane made $850,000. Prior to them, the highest base guarantee had been defensive coordinator Nick Holt in 2019 at $670,000.
IndyStar obtained contracts for several members of Odom’s staff via a public records request.

Walters’ contract specified a $5.5 million pool for 10 assistant coaches and a head of strength and conditioning. Odom’s contract contained no such language. Athletic director Mike Bobinski previously said the department and Odom had an understanding that it was “committed to doing what’s needed.”
The contracts for the six positions released so far totals $3.6 million for 2025, $3.8 million for 2026 and $4 million for…
