Marcus Sedberry named general manager for the Wisconsin Badgers football program

MADISON – Marcus Sedberry, who was announced as Wisconsin football’s general manager Monday, is very familiar with the program though he hasn’t been on staff.

In addition to serving as Wisconsin’s deputy athletic director/chief operating officer since 2022, he was football’s administrator for the athletic department. In that role, he worked closely with Badgers coach Luke Fickell and oversaw the program’s roster management.

In his new role Sedberry will lead the Badgers roster management, player personnel and football operations.

“Marcus has been an invaluable asset for our football program,” UW athletic director Chris McIntosh said in a press release. “His leadership and vision are perfect for this role. Expanding Marcus’s involvement demonstrates our strategy to embrace the future of collegiate athletics and positions us to navigate the opportunities ahead. From his time in the NFL to various collegiate athletic departments, Marcus has been a part of success everywhere he has been.”

Sedberry held football operation positions in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles and at the collegiate level with Baylor. He also worked with the football programs at Arkansas and Central Florida in an administrative role.

At Wisconsin he has helped the football program develop player personnel and revenue sharing strategies. He has also been key to UW’s handling of the House settlement, which calls for schools to play players directly for use of their name, image and likeness, and revenue sharing for the entire athletic department.
