Zeeland West hires familiar face as new face, coach of football program

ZEELAND – In its first search for a head football coach since the program began, Zeeland West didn’t have to look too far for the second head coach in program history.

Jeff Bolhouse has been hired as coach of the Dux, taking over for John Shillito, who retired after coaching the Dux for their first two decades as a program.

Bolhouse has been along for that ride as well. He has been the junior varsity coach for that time and assisted with the varsity team.

“Jeff has a wealth of knowledge and experience in educational athletics, and it was clear throughout the process that he is committed to upholding and advancing the high standards of Zeeland West football. With over 20 years as our J.V. football coach, coach Bolhouse has played a vital role in building our program’s strong foundation,” Zeeland West Athletic Director Jordan Bandstra said. In addition, this transition allows us to maintain continuity within the program, ensuring that much of our dedicated coaching staff remains in place.”

That is especially helpful for the Dux offense, who run the Wing-T/Power-T. Bolhouse has been key to developing that system with the younger kids.

“I am excited and honored to be named the next Zeeland West head football Coach. Having had three boys go through and experience the success of Zeeland West football, I look forward to continuing to provide positive experiences for our current and future players,” Bolhouse said. “I value the opportunity to continue working alongside the Zeeland West coaching staff, administration, and parents to collaboratively build success for our program.”
