The Georgia Bulldogs had one of the most memorable missed calls go against them during the 2024 college football season.
Against the Texas Longhorns during the regular season, Texas fans threw beer and water bottles onto the field after a pass interference call appeared to negate a pivotal second half interception. The officials had already re-spotted the ball following the penalty. Following the delay to pick up trash, referees agreed to picked up the flag. On3 ranks the decision as the third-worst officiating call of the season.
The changed call set Texas up for a key second half touchdown. Despite the adversity, Georgia beat Texas 30-15 on the road. The Bulldogs and Longhorns played again in the SEC championship, which Georgia won 22-19 in overtime.
“Wow I have never seen that in my life,” Pollack said. “The fans threw bottles on the field and the refs literally changed their call. That is such horse crap man. That’s one of the worst ways of handling a situation I have seen. Can’t believe they ain’t talking about that in the booth.”

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart did not offer many comments on the incident following the game to avoid a fine, but there’s no doubt that the controversial decision fired up Smart. “They tried to rob us of calls,” said Smart after Georgia’s win.
Because of the fans’ actions, Texas was fined $250,000. The decision to reverse the pass interference was correct, but the timing of the reversal following the fan induced delay is why the play was so controversial. Fans should not be incentivized to delay…
