SOUTH BEND— Notre Dame football made official on Tuesday the hiring of former Penn State assistant Ja’Juan Seider as its new associate head coach and running backs coach.
Seider, 47, steps into the roles Deland McCullough previously held before his recent return to the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders.
“Ja’Juan is a great offensive mind,” Irish coach Marcus Freeman said in a statement. “He has coached multiple offensive positions, but his ability to recruit and develop high-level running backs is exceptional.”
The hiring will be effective after Notre Dame’s standard employment process.
Seider, who spent seven seasons with the Nittany Lions, also held the titles of assistant head coach and co-offensive coordinator at Penn State. Notre Dame’s highly rated defense allowed 204 rushing yards and three touchdowns in a 27-27 Orange Bowl win over Penn State on Jan. 9.
Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen each rushed for more than 80 yards in that College Football Playoff semifinal, with Singleton scoring all three touchdowns. Both Singleton and Allen will return for their senior seasons with Penn State, but the man who recruited them from Shillington, Pa., and Norfolk, Va., respectively, has moved on.

The Irish return their top three running backs in 2025: Jeremiyah Love, Jadarian Price, and Aneyas Williams. Former Penn State graduate transfer Devyn Ford, who spent his final two seasons at Notre Dame, played for Seider with the Nittany Lions.
