Moorpark High elevates defensive coordinator Christian Dearborn to head football coach

Christian Dearborn has been elevated to head coach of the Moorpark High football program.

Ball boy. Outside linebacker. Freshman head coach. Defensive coordinator.

Christian Dearborn has had many roles within the Moorpark High football program.

And now he’s going to lead it.

The Moorpark High alum, assistant coach and history teacher has been elevated to head football coach, the Moorpark United School District announced Tuesday morning.

“Moorpark High School football has played a significant role in my life, and I am excited to continue its legacy of excellence,” Dearborn said in the announcement. “It is a tremendous honor to lead this program, one that I have been a part of since childhood.”

Dearborn succeeds another Moorpark alum, Ryan Huisenga, who stepped down in January after eight seasons.

“Our football program has established a foundational legacy as a well-respected and competitive program that is a cornerstone in the MHS community and throughout Moorpark,” Moorpark principal Zaid Bakoo said. “We welcome Christian Dearborn as our new head coach and look forward to his leadership in continuing that tradition while supporting our student-athletes on and off the field.”

Dearborn, the son of Moorpark athletic director Rob Dearborn, has previous head coaching experience.

The former Cal Lutheran University assistant coach was the head coach at Hillcrest Christian School in Thousand Oaks, leading the Saints program to two Omega League titles and consecutive CIF-Southern Section 8-man Division 2 semifinals in 2018 and 2019.

He was the head coach at Royal High in 2020 and 2021, guiding the Highlanders through the pandemic to a 5-8 record, before returning to Moorpark.

He coached the Moorpark freshman team to a 10-0 season in 2022, when his staff was honored as Freshman Staff of the Year by the Ventura County…
