Son of WWE Legend joining Oklahoma Football as a Walk On

Football evaluation and talent acquisition is a year-long process at every level. For the Oklahoma Sooners, the search has taken them to the OU Wrestling team, where they’ve added Jacob Henry, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry.

Jacob, a former three-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class posted a picture of his name above an Oklahoma Football locker with the caption, “Day 1” on X. His locker resides next to defensive tackle Trent Wilson, a four-star prospect out of the 2025 recruiting class. Henry also changed his bio to say, “defensive tackle at the University of Oklahoma.”

It would appear that Henry is making a sport change and attempting to walk on with the football team after joining the Oklahoma Wrestling team on scholarship as part of the 2024 class.

Henry’s size and strength will give him an opportunity to earn a spot as a walk-on with the Sooners but he’ll have a steep climb to break into the defensive tackle rotation. Defensive tackle is arguably the deepest position group on the roster, but with his natural ability to play with leverage and physicality at the point of attack and his experience at the high school level, the transition shouldn’t be too rough for Henry.

As a senior in high school, Henry showed good quickness and athleticism at the point of attack. He displayed a really strong motor.

It’s an unusual path to walk, but we’ve seen players come from a variety of paths develop into stars at the University of Oklahoma. Can Jacob Henry be the next?

Here’s a look at Jacob Henry’s senior year highlights
