Georgia Bulldogs name new director of scouting

The Georgia Bulldogs will have a new person leading the department of scouting. They promoted staffer James Ellis to director of scouting, according to On3.

The Bulldogs promoted Ellis, who was previously the assistant director of player personnel for UGA. Ellis has been working under Will Myers, the director of player personnel for Georgia, since 2023.

Ellis has had multiple roles with the team since 2019, so he’s had a hand in each of Georgia’s recruiting classes since 2020. Ever since Ellis was hired, Georgia hasn’t had below the fourth-best recruiting class in the nation. The Bulldogs have earned the top recruiting class in the nation twice and landed 25 five-star recruits, such as Ellis Robinson IV, Elijah Griffin, Nolan Smith Jr., and Kelee Ringo.

Despite the promotion, Ellis’s responsibilities will more than likely be the same. He will be in charge of day-to-day recruiting operations, talent identification, coaching recruiting travel plans, and camp evaluations, according to 247Sports. He will still be working closely with Will Myers to continue identifying talent at an elite level.
