The Notre Dame Fighting Irish play their home games in a stadium that ranks as one of the most expensive to build.
According to a list, the so-called House That Rockne Built is second behind Texas A&M’s Kyle Field, which came in at $650.4 million. The list appears to be compiling total construction costs over the years and adjusting for inflation.
So, in the case of Notre Dame Stadium, which was first constructed in 1930 and has been renovated multiple times since, it works out to $527.4 million all told. The stadium was initially constructed for $750,000, or $14.1 million in today’s dollars. So that total cost includes the recent $400 million renovation and a smaller $53 million update performed during the 1990s.
Other stadiums on the list include Cal’s Memorial Stadium and the University of Minnesota’s Huntington Bank Stadium. Washington’s Husky Stadium rounds out the top five.
Ohio State’s Ohio Stadium is seventh at $368.9 million and Michigan Stadium, home to the University of Michigan Wolverines, is ninth at $346.5 million.
