The Miami Hurricanes have filled out their 2025 coaching staff over the past few weeks.
After hiring Corey Hetherman to replace Lance Guidry as defensive coordinator, Hetherman and coach Mario Cristobal added three position coaches to the staff — though UM has not officially announced any of the hires.
The Hurricanes have added Zac Etheridge and Will Harris to coach the defensive backs, and they added Damione Lewis to coach defensive linemen. Etheridge and Lewis are both listed in the university directory, and Harris’ hire was confirmed to the South Florida Sun Sentinel by a source.
With spring football around the corner, here is a look at the three new position coaches and what they bring to Miami:
Zac Etheridge
Etheridge comes to Miami after a season coaching defensive backs at Houston. The former Auburn safety coached safeties at his alma mater from 2021-23 in between stints with the Cougars.
Under Etheridge’s tutelage last year, Houston had the No. 28 pass defense in the nation, allowing 188.8 passing yards per game. Miami was 57th in the nation, allowing 214.4. The Cougars had 12 interceptions, two fewer than the Hurricanes. In 2023, Etheridge helped Auburn notch the No. 3 pass defense in the SEC.
Etheridge, an Alabama native who won a national title with the Tigers in 2010, is also a skilled recruiter, helping Auburn bring in several four-star prospects. He has already been on the road recruiting for the Hurricanes.
Will Harris
Harris will team with Etheridge to coach the defensive backs. Harris will coach the safeties while Etheridge coaches the cornerbacks, according to multiple reports.
Harris comes to Miami after a season with rival Florida. With Harris coaching the secondary, UF had the No. 83 pass defense in the nation and allowed 227.5 yards per game. Florida had 14 interceptions, which tied for 27th in…
