On Tuesday, the Texas Longhorns got encouraging news on the recruiting front. Four-star recruit Vodney Cleveland released his top six list, which included the Longhorns. They were joined by Georgia, Florida, Miami, and Auburn.
The four-star linemen originally committed to Alabama before decommitting in December. Since then, Cleveland has drawn interest in programs across the nation. He is ranked as the No. 9 defensive lineman, the No. 9 player from Alabama, and the 101st-best prospect nationally by 247Sports. With Alabama out of the mix, Auburn is the only program from his home state in the mix.
While Cleveland is back on the market, he has stayed busy over the last month. In January, he visited Auburn and made two trips to Florida in the span of just three weeks. If the Longhorns want to make their case, they will have to find a way to bring Cleveland to Austin for a visit, which shouldn’t take much convincing.
During his junior season, Cleveland continued to show why he is one of the best at his position. He recorded 50 total tackles, including 7.5 for loss, to go along with 5.5 sacks. With Cleveland leading the way, Parker High School added an Alabama 6A state title to its trophy case.
If the Longhorns were able to land Cleveland, they would be adding another talented player to their defense. During his high school career, he has frustrated offensive coordinators and made life difficult for quarterbacks. Those are traits that will be welcomed at Texas and needed in the SEC.
As the Longhorns ramp up their recruiting for the 2026 class, Cleveland figures to be at the top of their wishlist.
