Texas A&M’s 2025 football roster is not entirely set. Coach Mike Elko and his staff are looking to add more veteran talent from the transfer portal, especially along the defensive line. Once the spring portal opens, I expect Elko to be one of the more active coaches, but for the players on the roster, this month has been about building strength in the weight room.
Texas A&M’s Strength & Conditioning coach, Tommy Moffitt, is entering his second season with the program, as his impact was seen throughout the 2024 season on both sides of the ball. While building muscle isn’t the only offseason goal, functional strength, which can be built through squatting, bench press, and, most importantly, power cleans, several players, including former North Carolina State wide receiver KC Concepcion, collectively put up impressive lifting numbers this week.
On Wednesday, Texas A&M’s media team released a video showing four players successfully performing 315-pound power cleans, as junior linebacker Taurean York, junior defensive tackle DJ Hicks and freshman DL Landon Rink each lifted all six plates with ease.
However, York, Hicks, and Rink are the bigger players, so this weight wasn’t extremely challenging, but for Concepcion to complete the same lift (less weight) with solid form while completing the full squat at 190 pounds is highly impressive.
All four players, including Landon Rink, will be heavily relied on next season to help push the Aggies toward College Football Playoff contention. Any success the Aggies have in 2025 will grow from their work during the offseason, so this is a solid start.
