Some expected news came down the pipeline for the Oregon Ducks on Friday afternoon.
Four-star quarterback Jonas Williams, who had been verbally committed to the Ducks since August of 2024, officially flipped his commitment to the USC Trojans. Williams is rated by 247Sports as the No. 6 QB and No. 93 overall player in the 2026 class. He has been committed to Oregon since August of 2024.
This flip prediction feels like a long time coming, as the Trojans have been recruiting Williams heavily over the last several months, working to make him one of the cornerstones of their recruiting class in 2026. Before the flip, Oregon had the No. 1 ranked class in the cycle, and USC had the No. 3 class in the nation. Oregon still holds onto the No. 1 spot even after the loss of Williams, but the Trojans jumped into the No. 2 spot.
Williams was the seventh-ranked prospect of Oregon’s 10 commitments in 2026.
While losing out on a blue-chip recruit is less-than-ideal for Dan Lanning and the Ducks, it’s not something they will be unable to recover from. The Ducks are among the leaders for both 5-star QB Jared Curtis and 5-star QB Ryder Lyons, so it is worth monitoring how those recruitments progress.
