Florida State’s incoming wide receiver Jordan Scott plays with a chip on his shoulders. That is because he has been overlooked throughout the early stages of his football career.
After being under-recruited, Scott took a gamble and went the JUCO route to jumpstart his collegiate career. For Scott, it was one of the best decisions he has made.
Now, how can you overlook a 6-foot-7 wide receiver?
For a player in size, you would think Scott would be a can’t-missed high school prospect. That wasn’t the case for the Lynchburg, Virginia native.
Scott went to Appomattox County High School, a small 2A school in the Lynchburg metro area. While there, the Raiders were state championship contenders, and it wasn’t hard to take notice of a tall but lanky receiver.
Despite his stature, Scott was unranked and didn’t get enough exposure from college teams, leaving him with no Division 1 offers. That’s when he decided to take a chance at playing JUCO ball.
“I took the chance, like I bet on myself, and went to JUCO because I knew I was better than what I was,” Scott said. “In high school, I was underrated, so I took the time to go to JUCO, and it changed my life.”

Jordan Scott’s recruitment gets up to speed
Florida State football’s wide receiver Jordan Scott played JUCO for Southwest Mississippi Community College.
Scott first enrolled at Lackawanna College but wasn’t producing. He then transferred to Southwest Mississippi Community College, where he finally could showcase himself.
“It was really a chip on my shoulder because out of high school. I said I was like the underdog kind of, so I went down there with a chip on my shoulder, and I had to make something out of it,” Scott said.
Southwest Mississippi running backs coach Stephon Huderson saw firsthand how raw Scott was just remembered…
