Is the tide finally turning for USC football against Oregon and Dan Lanning?

It hasn’t taken long for USC’s revamped football recruiting staff to make an impact. On Friday afternoon, the Trojans and Lincoln Riley made a big move, flipping four-star quarterback Jonas Williams from Oregon and Dan Lanning.

Hailing from New Lenox, Illinois, Williams is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 93 player in the class of 2026. It also has him as the No. 3 QB, and the No. 1 player in the state of Illinois.

Williams had been committed to Oregon since August. However, USC had been making a push for him of late, making Friday’s flip not the most stunning news in the world.

Landing Williams is one of the first major recruiting victories for new USC general manager Chad Bowden. In past cycles, the Trojans had been significantly behind the Ducks in the recruiting and NIL realms.

USC hopes that the addition of Bowden—who they hired away from archrival Notre Dame last month—and a revamped recruiting staff will change that. The Trojans are still a ways away, but flipping Williams is a great start.
