Linebacker named a top-performing freshman by Pro Football Focus

Nebraska football linebacker Vincent Shavers Jr. was rated highly by Pro Football Focus earlier this week as one of the top freshman linebackers in the country. Pro Football Focus tabbed him with a 71 overall grade, the highest mark for a freshman linebacker from the 2024 season.

The Florida native played in all 13 games in 2024, making two starts. He recorded 25 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack.

Shavers played at a high level during the Pinstripe Bowl. He tallied a season-high six tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble. His defensive performance was crucial to NebraskNebraska’swin over the Boston College Eagles.

Shavers figures to be an integral part of the Huskers in the coming seasons. His speed and ability to get into offensive backfields quickly are notable parts of his game. It will be interesting to see how he asserts himself and the defense as the sophomore looks to elevate his game in 2025.
