5 offensive players to watch during Texas A&M’s spring football season

Texas A&M’s 2024 football season ended in disappointment. The team finished 1-4 after starting 7-1 with an undefeated record in SEC play. Still, this was head coach Mike Elko’s inaugural season, so eight wins aren’t a failure. However, consecutive losses to Texas and USC in the Las Vegas Bowl are just bad optics that have left the fan base in an uncomfortable spot this offseason.

So far, Elko and his staff have done their jobs, adding 13 players from the transfer portal. At the same time, Elko locked down the 2025 recruiting class, which features several plays that will see the field next season, including five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles and five-star offensive tackle Lamont Rogers.

Grading Elko based on offseason movement isn’t a proper analysis, but with the spring football season just weeks away, development on the practice field is the start of what we’ll see during the 2025 season.

With the news that Texas will forgo its annual spring game, Texas A&M is still scheduled to play the Maroon & White game on April 19, but that could change anytime.

Focusing on Texas A&M’s offense, which needs to take the next step under starting QB Marcel Reed, here are five offensive players that need to improve this spring:

Running back Rueben Owens

Texas A&M’s 2024 offense would have looked very different if former five-star prospect Rueben Owens was a consistent part of the running back rotation, especially after Le’Veon Moss’s season-ending injury. After recovering from a lower-body injury that prematurely ended his season, Owens briefly returned against Texas and USC.

The spring season is significant for Owens to re-establish his footing as one of the more skilled running backs in the country, entering a depth chart that features Moss, Amari Daniels, and two freshman backs.
