ESPN has named the Georgia Bulldogs as one of the college football teams most likely to regress in 2025. Georgia lost a lot of key producers to the 2025 NFL draft. In fact, Georgia lost 14 players to the draft that received NFL combine invitations. Overall, 17 Bulldogs declared for the draft following the 2024 college football season.
Georgia has a significant amount of rebuilding to do in the trenches. UGA lost seven of its eight leading sack producers and four of its five starting offensive linemen. Georgia additionally lost two of the nation’s top three transfers in quarterback Carson Beck and outside linebacker Damon Wilson.
ESPN’s Bill Connelly (subscription required) ranks Georgia No. 105 in returning production, which is second-to-last in the SEC. Georgia is one of eight teams that Connelly labels as “most likely to regress” in the 2025 college football season. Georgia is one of five of the top seven teams in last year’s SP+ rankings that returns under 46% of its production from 2024,
“Per SP+, Georgia fielded its worst offense in four years and its worst defense in seven,” said Connelly on the 2024 Georgia team. Georgia was inconsistent and not as dominant as usual, but the Bulldogs survived the toughest schedule in the country, made the College Football Playoff and won a SEC championship.
“The Dawgs were still in the top 10 in offensive, defensive and special teams SP+ — but this was Kirby Smart’s least scary Georgia team in quite a while, and now it will be replacing starting quarterback Carson Beck, three of his top four targets, four of the top six offensive linemen and 12 of 18 defenders with 200-plus snaps,” continued Connelly.
Fortunately for Georgia, the Bulldogs have landed three straight top two recruiting classes, so UGA will have players ready to step up in larger roles. However, there’s no doubt…
