Former Ohio State football target and current Maryland commit, Zion Elee, is the No. 1 defensive end in the Class of 2026 and the top player from the state of Maryland. He’s got superstar written all over him sitting as the No. 2 player in the class per 247Sports. The EDGE rusher comes in at 6-foot-3.5 and 220 pounds. He would have been the Buckeyes’ highest-rated addition if he had chosen Ohio State.
Every major program is eyeing Elee because he has the potential to dominate the collegiate level for several seasons. For Ohio State football, Larry Johnson was in charge of recruitment, but he didn’t end up making an official visit to Columbus. Having played at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland, it seemed like he was destined to stay home and choose the Terrapins despite them not necessarily being a prospect known for developing defensive ends.
Ohio State did offer Elee. While there is always talk of the top prospects in the country changing their mind and heading elsewhere, Elee let the folks around the world know that he’s staying with the Terrapins, officially closing his recruitment.
Chris Henry Jr. at No. 13 is the top recruit for the Buckeyes in the class. With a few top-ten players still undecided in the Class of 2026, the Buckeyes will hopefully get some traction with other talent.
