The Oregon Ducks currently have the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class for the 2026 cycle, with six of the top 200 ranked players already verbally committed. They may soon improve the class by adding more 5-star talent.
One of those 5-star players could be 5-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell, the No. 1 ranked player in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite. Cantwell stands at 6-foot-7, 300 pounds, and is from Nixa. Missouri.
That last detail gives Oregon a leg up in his recruitment.
Dan Lanning, the Ducks’ head coach, is also from small-town Missouri, so there is a connection there. With Oregon thought to be near the top, if not leading, in Cantwell’s recruitment, it comes as no surprise that the elite OT recently stated that Lanning is the coach with whom he has bonded the most so far in his recruiting process.
“I think my favorite head coach still to this day has been Dan Lanning,” Cantwell told On3’s Steve Wiltfong. “I think everyone can understand. Great guy. Missouri guy.”
Cantwell recently named his top six schools, listing Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio State, and Oregon. The relationship built between Lanning and Cantwell is strong, and with the Ducks’ prowess in football and track and field, Oregon stands out as a strong choice.
Cantwell hasn’t yet released his official visit dates, but he will take those this summer and undoubtedly visit Eugene to see what Oregon has to offer.
