The Oklahoma Sooners had a phenomenal weekend, sweeping the field in the Round Rock Classic, going 3-0 and earning wins over No. 2 Virginia and No. 7 Oregon State. For their efforts, the Sooners climbed eight spots from No. 25 to No. 17 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.
Oklahoma is one of 11 SEC teams featured in this week’s coaches poll, which is highlighted by the top four teams in the nation. SEC schools make up the top four with Tennessee at No. 1, Texas A&M at No. 2, LSU at No. 3, and Arkansas at No. 4.
The Oklahoma Sooners needed a strong weekend in Round Rock ahead of their first swim through conference play. Knocking off a pair of top-10 teams on the second weekend of the season was huge. The Sooners won with strong pitching performances out of SEC Pitcher of the Week Kyson Witherspoon on Friday night and a strong performance from their bullpen in the finale on Sunday.
It was a total team effort this week, and the Sooners hope they can build on it when they return home for midweek action against Texas Southern on Tuesday and Wednesday. They’ll then host Cal State Northridge over the weekend to complete a five-game homestand at L Dale Mitchell Park.
