PFF: Wisconsin Badger among top offensive tackles in college football entering 2025

Despite turnover during the transfer portal window, the Wisconsin football program will welcome several high-profile playmakers back to Camp Randall Stadium this fall.

One of those athletes is veteran offensive tackle Riley Mahlman, who was recently included in ProFootballFocus’ list of the ‘Top 10 Returning Offensive Tackles for the 2025 Season.’

The fifth-year Badger landed at No. 10 on the list alongside several prolific linemen. Spencer Fano (Utah), Francis Mauigoa (Miami-FL), Kadyn Proctor (Alabama), Jordan Seaton (Colorado), Aamil Wagner (Notre Dame), Gennings Dunker (Iowa), Blake Miller (Clemson), Carter Smith (Indiana) and Brian Parker II (Duke) were featured ahead of Mahlman on the list.

The Lakeville, Minnesota, native started all 12 of Wisconsin’s games at right tackle last season. He is primed to hold the position yet again in 2025, alongside Kevin Heywood (left tackle), Joe Brunner (left guard), Jake Renfro (center) and J.P. Benzschawel (right guard).

Here’s what PFF college football analyst Max Chadwick wrote about Mahlman’s return:

“Mahlman entered 2024 as our No. 8 offensive tackle in college football and remains in the top 10 a year later. The only returning Power Four tackle who’s been more valuable than him over the last two years is Wagner according to PFF’s WAA metric. Mahlman’s 79.6 grade in that span is tied for 34th among all tackles in the nation. The player tied with him is Olu Fashanu, a top-15 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He’s both a good pass-blocker and run-blocker, earning 75.0-plus grades in each over the last two seasons.”
