Record-breaking quarterback Trace McSorley is making a return to Penn State football.
The former star, who was an iconic leader for the Nittany Lions’ program, will be working for his old coach.
McSorley, 29, has joined the football program as an offensive analyst, according to the university staff directory. He will work under head coach James Franklin and alongside quarterbacks coach Danny O’Brien and coordinator Andy Kotelnicki in helping Penn State’s offense.
Penn State athletic director Pat Kraft first dropped the impending news with a vague announcement Saturday during the university’s Thon’s Pep Rally. McSorley served as an emcee for Thon, Penn State’s annual dance marathon that raises money to fight pediatric cancer.

McSorley left Happy Valley with several program records, including career passing yards (9,899) and touchdown passes (77), though many were eventually broken by Sean Clifford, who started four seasons.
McSorley was a sixth-round NFL Draft pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2019. He’s made a pro career ever since, though mostly as an NFL backup and practice squad player. He hasn’t thrown a pass in a regular-season game since the 2022 season with the Arizona Cardinals.
