The Iowa State football coaching staff will continue to have a North Dakota State flavor.
Jake Landry, the Bison’s offensive coordinator and running backs coach, is being hired by the Cyclones as their running backs coach, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. ESPN was the first to report the move.
He will replace Tyler Roehl, who left Iowa State for the Detroit Lions and the NFL earlier this winter.
Landry guided the Bison to the FCS’ third-best scoring offense en route to another national championship for the powerhouse program in 2024. The Cyclones have borrowed heavily from the Bison, with Roehl hailing from NDSU as well as current wide receivers coach Noah Pauley.

Becht will return in 2025, but his go-to wide receivers are both off to the NFL.

Returning, though, will be the Cyclones’ top two rushers, Carson Hansen and Abu Sama. Hansen had 752 yards and 13 touchdowns on 151 carries while Sama had 587 yards and two scores on 124 attempts.
Landry spent 2022-23 at the University of St. Thomas as the Tommies’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He previously had stops at Northern Illinois, Temple, Wisconsin-La Crosse and Minnesota-Duluth in a variety of roles.
