After an up-and-down final collegiate season, former Texas football star Quinn Ewers will reportedly participate in the NFL Scouting Combine.
Ewers, a 6-foot-2 quarterback from North Texas, will throw during the annual showcase, per NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero. Ewers will undoubtedly try to use the combine to prove he’s healthy after an injury-marred season and flash the arm talent that made him the top high school QB in the country coming out of Southlake Carroll, near Fort Worth.
Pelissero said in social media video posted Tuesday that many players are arriving in Indianapolis today ahead of interviews tonight. Workouts won’t begin until Saturday.
Ewers has been working with former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy ahead of the combine, per Pelissero. He played the entire season with a torn oblique suffered in Week 2 against Michigan, according to multiple reports. But he’s healthy now, according to Pelissero and ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller.
“McCarthy said he’s been really impressed with Quinn Ewers as a young man and the attentiveness that he has,” Pelissero said. “… This is an opportunity here for Quinn Ewers to come out and maybe establish himself as QB3 if not QB2, or (QB1).”
Several players in recent years have decided against competing at the combine, and this year, former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders — the 2024 Unitas award winner — has declined to throw. Former Miami quarterback Cam Ward is undecided on throwing, Pelissero reports, meaning the top-two QB prospects in the class may not take part in the showcase.
