Auburn football target announces college destination

Auburn was high on four-star safety Xavier Lherisse’s radar. However, like most cases in recruiting, plans change on the fly.

Lherisse recently scheduled a visit to Auburn for May 31. However, that visit is now in jeopardy as he announced his commitment to Oregon on Wednesday.

Lherisse committed to Oregon over Auburn, Penn State, Notre Dame, and Florida State on Wednesday, citing that Oregon head coach Dan Lanning made him feel like a priority following a recent in-home visit.

“They have been consistent and they love what I bring to the table,” Lherisse said of Oregon. “When I went up there in fall, coach (Dan) Lanning treated me like I was already a part of the program. I feel like he has a plan of how they will use me and I can be an impact there.”

Lherisse chose Auburn as his first visit, and was even favored to commit to Auburn with a 30.5% forecast from On3 as recently as Feb. 21. However, Auburn will now go back to the drawing board to fill slots within its defensive backfield. Wayne Henry, a three-star safety from Baltimore, Maryland, is the lone defensive back commitment of the 2026 class for Hugh Freeze and staff.

Will Auburn still receive a visit from Lherisse in May? He tells ScopeDuck’s Max Torres that he will “reassess” his visit plans over the next several weeks.
