Here’s a big pickup for the New Orleans Saints coaching staff. Nola.com’s Luke Johnson first reported that the Saints are poaching Bo Davis from the LSU Tigers, which was confirmed by multiple local outlets.
Davis, 54, went to college at LSU and started his coaching career there as an assistant on Nick Saban’s staff. He’s since become one of the highest respected coaches in the business after winning a couple of national championship rings and sending dozens of players into the NFL between stops at Alabama, Texas, and LSU. He overlapped with Saints defensive pass game coordinator Terry Joseph on the Longhorns’ staff from 2021 to 2023 before returning to LSU in 2024. He’s also spent time in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions.
Now he’ll continue coaching in Louisiana, but not in Baton Rouge. Look for Davis to play a huge role in developing a Saints defensive line that stagnated in recent years. Davis will be a top assistant for defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, whose defense shares a lot of DNA with the Saban system that Davis came up in. Whether or not Davis joining the Saints ends their history of neglecting to draft many playmakers from LSU remains to be seen.
