Georgia football finally has announced the date for its spring football game and the schedule for all of its spring practices.
As expected, G-Day is set for Saturday April 12 in Sanford Stadium. That’s the same Saturday that the Masters third round is scheduled for Augusta.
No start time or TV channel was announced for G-Day but the SEC Network ran a graphic during an appearance by athletic director Josh Brooks on the Paul Finebaum Show Thursday that said the scrimmage will be televised live and streamed on ESPN.
The first of 15 spring practices start on Tuesday, March 11 and the team will practice on a Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday schedule each week leading up to G-Day.
Georgia’s Pro Day for NFL Draft prospects is scheduled for Wednesday March 12.
Some schools are scrapping spring games, but Brooks said after an athletic board meeting Tuesday that that Georgia is keeping it going. At least for now.
“You know, you’re going to take it year to year on things like that, but I can say one thing I appreciate about Coach (Kirby) Smart is he understands the value of the game,” Brooks said. “It is an opportunity for some of our fans to come see Georgia play that may not be able to have season tickets. It’s always been a special day.”
Georgia is coming off an 11-3 season that included an SEC championship and CFP quarterfinal loss to Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.
Gunner Stockton is the top candidate to start at quarterback. He will compete with redshirt freshman Ryan Puglisi for the job this spring.
