BATON ROUGE — For the most part, Brian Kelly’s full-time on-field coaching staff with LSU football has remained mostly in tact this offseason.
That stability took a hit Thursday as LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis is set to leave Baton Rouge to assume the same role with the New Orleans Saints as part of new first-time head coach Kellen Moore’s staff, sources within the LSU program confirmed to The Daily Advertiser.
The move marks a return to coaching at the professional ranks for Davis who spent three seasons, from 2018 to 2020, with the Detroit Lions.

For Kelly, this is the second assistant coaching spot that has opened up since the end of the 2024 regular season. Former LSU tight ends coach and special teams coordinator Slade Nagle took the offensive coordinator job at Houston working under his former boss at Tulane Willie Fritz.
Former Florida State offensive coordinator Alex Atkins has taken the tight ends job with LSU.
Davis time at LSU comes to end after one season and he walks away from being one of the highest paid assistant coaches in all of college football. He made $1.25 million this year and was set to get paid $1.35 million this coming year.
LSU is set to open spring football practice in less than two weeks and Davis’ departure opens up plenty of questions about how Kelly will approach constructing his staff before, during and after spring drills.
Kevin Peeples has been coaching edge rushers for the Tigers and he has experience instructing the full defensive line, most recently at Indiana in 2020 and Tulane for four seasons prior to that. Kelly could decide to move Peeples into the full defensive line coach position…
