Recruiting for Michigan football in 2026 has been in something of a holding pattern as the Wolverines wait until the bulk of spring and summer visits come about. Michigan has two commitments thus far in the cycle with cornerback Brody Jennings and wide receiver Jaylen Pile, but it appears as if the maize and blue may be on the verge of adding a third.
Though other programs appeared to be surging, according to On3’s Steve Wiltfong (subscription required) Michigan appears poised to add 2026 Cartersville (Ga.) Cass three-star interior offensive lineman Bear McWhorter to the fold. He plans to make his decision on Friday at some point.
Via Wiltfong:
Cartersville (Ga.) Cass three-star interior offensive lineman Bear McWhorter is set to announce his commitment Friday around noon ET. Alabama, Florida, and Michigan are among the programs that have remained in contact with McWhorter leading into decision day.
However, sources close to this recruitment indicate Michigan is the program that looks to be trending to land the 6-foot-3, 310-pound McWhorter. The relationships built with the Michigan coaching staff, the Wolverines’ tradition, recent offensive line development, and the alumni base are all reportedly things that stand out to McWhorter.
McWhorter is rated a three-star by On3 and 247Sports but ESPN and Rivals both have him listed as a four-star, with ESPN ranking him at No. 175 overall. The 247Sports Composite has him as four-star as well, at No. 385 overall.
Before Friday, Alabama appeared to be the leader for McWhorter, and there is one 247Sports Crystal Ball indicating that the Crimson Tide would be the choice before On3’s intel.
