Michigan football pulled something of a coup that made the college football world stand up and take notice last November.
Not many gave the Wolverines much of a chance to flip No. 1 overall recruit in 2025, quarterback Bryce Underwood, from LSU. But on Nov. 21, the maize and blue did the unthinkable and completed the flip, and Underwood joined the program officially in December.
Speaking with Adam Breneman, Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore shared some thoughts on what he’s seen from Underwood, and noted that his character is very unlike what one might expect from the top-ranked player in the country.
“I mean, I think to just get to talk to him, to be around him, to grow with him,” Moore said. “The kid is an amazing human being. He is extremely selfless. He’s extremely humble. And all he wants to do is work. And that’s all he wants to do.
“So you see this No. 1 player in the country. You have this vision of what it could be, and he’s the exact opposite of the prima donna, I think I got all the answers guy. I mean, the guy’s the first guy in the building. He’s the last one out. He, you got to tell him to get out the building. Like, and he told us that he’s like, you’re going to have to tell me to leave. And the dude just does not want to leave the building. So he’s an awesome, awesome teammate, awesome player, and excited to watch him.”
Underwood joined the maize and blue for bowl prep, giving him multiple practices before spring ball begins in March. He’ll also have all of summer conditioning and fall camp to prepare to potentially wrest away the starting quarterback job from incoming transfer Mikey Keene.
