Georgia football announces G-Day spring game date

The Georgia Bulldogs will be starting spring football practice very soon. Georgia spring practice begins on March 11.

The 2025 Georgia Bulldogs have a new look. Georgia lost starting quarterback Carson Beck to the NCAA transfer portal this offseason. Now, Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton is expected to start, but he will battle this spring with Ryan Puglisi.

Georgia’s annual spring game, which is known as G-Day, will be on Saturday, April 12. Georgia is having a spring game despite several other top college football programs electing to not hold a spring game to the public. Arguably the program in a position most similar to Georgia, Texas, is not having a spring game.

Georgia’s spring game will offer an opportunity for several of Georgia’s new starters to earn experience playing in front of fans in Sanford Stadium. Georgia is replacing a lot of their top talent in the trenches and had 14 players invited to the 2025 NFL combine, so the Bulldogs will have a very different team this fall.

It is understandable why college football programs are leery of spring games. Many coaches worry about opposing teams’ scouts watching spring game film and recruiting their players to transfer away. The transfer portal opens on April 16, so the spring game often is how opposing teams get good tape on depth players.

The concern of players transferring away may be a bit overblown. Last spring, Georgia lost four transfers (includes one walk-on) and added two transfers, so the spring portal is just not as active as it is in the winter.

Georgia football’s regular season schedule begins on Aug. 30 at home against Marshall.
