It has been a tumultuous few years at USC for Lincoln Riley. After going 11-3 in Riley’s first season, the Trojans have gone just 14-11 over the past two years.
Over the past few weeks, however, it appears as though USC finally has some momentum. Behind new general manager Chad Bowden and a revamped recruiting staff, the Trojans currently have the No. 1 recruiting class in the country for the 2026 cycle.
In an interview last week with On3’s J.D. Pickell, Riley discussed USC’s offseason moves and his vision for the future of the program.
“There are so, so many advantages [to being at USC],” Riley said. “But you’ve kind of gotta learn how to navigate and how to use it. And I think we’ve come a long ways.
“And at the same time, you’re trying to balance all that’s changing in college football . . . it’s definitely forced me to just try to take it one step at a time. You know and try not to get too far ahead of myself, not get too overly locked in to results on this day or this game, and understand that like, there is a bigger picture to all this.
“We’re building something. And if we continue to take steps . . . towards a championship level, in that direction constantly with the people we bring in, the things that we do, the way we develop our players, that the results that we all want will come. And they are going to come, there’s no question about that.
“We feel that. Everybody in this building feels that. That’s why we’ve been able to bring in the quality of people that we have, and I think why we’re all so bullish on the future of USC football.”
USC has given Riley the time and resources that he needs to execute his vision. Now, it is on the head coach to produce. Riley must continue to earn victories both on the field and on the recruiting trail in order to show that he truly is the right guy to lead the program as…
