Michigan football recruiting: OL Bear McWhorter commits to 2026 class

The heart and soul of Michigan football’s team during its dominant 2021-23 run was the offensive line.

Now, with former offensive line coach Sherrone Moore now the head coach, the emphasis on the position has only picked up.

On Friday, the Wolverines landed a future piece of the unit, picking up a commitment from class of 2026 interior lineman Bear McWhorter.

A 6-foot-3, 295-pound prospect out of Cartersville, Georgia (Cass High School), McWhorter is considered a four-star prospect per the 247Sports composite rankings, which slots him as the No. 32 interior lineman in the country, No. 45 player in Georgia and No. 385 overall in his class.

McWhorter plays tackle in high school, but projects as either a guard or center in college. According to his profile, he held nearly 40 offers, including from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, LSU, Penn State, Texas and others.

McWhorter took a visit to Ann Arbor in January, where he and his family saw the facilities, met with coaches and went downtown for a meal with offensive line coach Grant Newsome.

He’s now U-M’s third commit in the 2026 class, joining four-star defensive back Brody Jennings (Jacksonville) and three-star wide receiver Jaylen Pile (Dallas).
