Before the NFL Combine festivities got underway, junior defensive lineman Nic Scourton spoke to the media about several subjects, including who he looks up to and the differences between Purdue and Texas A&M’s defensive schemes.
“I like to take bits and pieces from everybody, a lot of greats, Dwight Freeney. A lot of guys use the cross-chop nowadays; Brian Burns, Rashan Gary, Aidan Hutchinson. I just love watching those guys get after it,” Scourton said Wednesday. “(The inside spin) is not really a move for me, it’s kind of like a counter. I like to set it up throughout the game with different outside rushes and things like that.
“Coach wanted me to go and just get after the quarterback. I’d drop in cover two, take man sometimes, (Purdue) was a very simple defense. I think when I got to A&M, we were in a very complex defense. I spent (time in) most positions and there are a lot of different responsibilities for those. Coach Elko and that staff really helped me learn more about football and just showcase my versatility.”
Scourton racked up 37 tackles (27 solo), 5 sacks and a forced fumble during his lone season in College Station.
