Tez Johnson says Ohio State football couldn’t hang with Oregon’s ‘skill’

Ohio State football lost to the Oregon Ducks on the road early in the 2024 college football season, and the Buckeyes were given a rematch in the College Football Playoff on a neutral field several months later.

Playing in the Rose Bowl, the Buckeyes absolutely obliterated the Ducks, leading 34-0 with just a few minutes prior to the half. The Buckeyes ended up coming out on top by 20, 41-21.

Now, there were some competing headlines, one of which was that the Ducks had a first-round bye while the Buckeyes dominated the Volunteers and were able to keep momentum riding. Could that have hurt Oregon? The jury is still out, but next season’s CFP will help shape that question.

Nonetheless, Ohio State put on a show, and it abused Oregon in all facets of the game. Don’t tell receiver Tez Johnson that as he said that the Buckeyes couldn’t match the Ducks’ skill. He mentioned their gameplan and keeping everything in front of them as well.

Ohio State certainly had the talent to keep stride-for-stride with the Ducks.

That said, if there’s one thing he was right about, it is that the Ducks-Buckeyes game felt like it could’ve been the national championship; however, both the games against Notre Dame and Texas had a similar feel, obviously with the former being the final game in the college football season.
