Former Colorado football offensive coordinator and interim head coach Mike Sanford has been named head football coach at Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Sanford coached at CU during the 2022 season and was named interim head coach after Karl Dorrell was fired midseason.
Sanford, the son of former UNLV and Indiana State head coach Mike Sanford Sr., has been all across the country throughout his coaching career. He held the title of offensive coordinator at Boise State, Notre Dame, Utah State and Minnesota before joining the Buffs under Dorrell. Sanford led CU to its only win of the 2022 season, a thrilling 20-13 victory over Cal in overtime. When Deion Sanders was named head coach, Sanford and CU parted ways.
Since leaving the program, Sanford has integrated himself into the community, most notably joining Altitude Sports Radio as a host.
On Friday, Valor Christian announced Sanford as its new head coach.
“I could not be more excited about accepting the call of being Valor Christian’s next Head Football Coach,” Sanford said in a press release. “My relationship with Valor Christian began in the Fall of 2012 as the Running Back Coach at Stanford University, evaluating a young prospect named Christian McCaffrey. With countless other recruiting visits to Valor over the past decade-plus, I have always loved what Valor has stood for as a decidedly Christian institution preparing leaders to transform the world for Christ while aiming for excellence in all endeavors.”
