Report: Texas in Talks with Former West Virginia Head Coach Neal Brown

Former West Virginia head coach Neal Brown has engaged in discussions with Texas about a potential role on the Longhorns’ coaching staff, according to a report from FootballScoop.com.

While conversations have taken place, Brown has not finalized a position with the program, and his exact role remains unclear. CBS Sports reported that head coach Steve Sarkisian and Texas are targeting Brown for a staff position.

Brown, who was dismissed following the 2023 season after leading the Mountaineers to a 6-6 regular-season record, has been linked to multiple coaching opportunities this offseason, including offensive play-calling roles at Power Five programs.

During his tenure in Morgantown, Brown compiled a 37-35 record, with his best season coming in 2023 when West Virginia finished 9-4. He guided the Mountaineers to four bowl appearances but posted a winning record in only two of his six seasons.

Before West Virginia, Brown enjoyed a successful run as head coach at Troy. After a 4-8 debut season, he led the Trojans to three consecutive 10-win campaigns, departing for Morgantown in 2019 with a 35-16 record.

Texas recently added former West Virginia offensive coordinator Chad Scott as its new running backs coach, replacing Tashard Choice, who left to join the Detroit Lions in the same role.
