CHRISTOVAL — Christoval Independent School District hired Tanner McLean to be its new athletic director and head football coach, the district announced Tuesday on Facebook.
McLean steps in after the school district announced former head football coach and athletic director Casey Otho would be the principal at the new intermediate school.
McLean attended Angelo State University and the University of Houston-Clear Lake before coaching. He spent the past four years at Comanche High School serving as the assistant head coach, defensive coordinator and boys track coach. His previous coaching stops include Breckenridge, Burnet and Lampasas.
“My vision for the athletic program is to instill a culture of discipline, toughness, respect, and drive,” McLean said in a Facebook post. “All while shaping young men and women into well-rounded individuals who make their school and community proud. I am committed to fostering a positive environment that promotes growth, teamwork and excellence. Thank you for this incredible opportunity. My family and I look forward to becoming an integral part of the Christoval ISD community. GO COUGS”
McLean takes over a Christoval football squad that finished second in District 3-2A Division I with a 4-7 record and 3-2 district record. The Cougars lost their bi-district matchup 46-11 to Anson.
