Ahead of his first season with the Buffs, new Colorado football defensive tackle Jehiem Oatis was named a player to watch this spring by ESPN.
Oatis, an Alabama Crimson Tide transfer, should make an immediate impact on Colorado’s defensive front, which must replace standouts Shane Cokes and Chidozie Nwankwo. During his three-ish years at Alabama, Oatis played in only 29 games and elected to take a redshirt midway through last season. However, the former four-star prospect from Mississippi showed flashes of greatness when healthy.
Here’s what ESPN’s Eli Lederman wrote on Oatis potentially becoming a “key piece” to head coach Deion Sanders’ Colorado defense:
Alabama defensive tackle transfer Jeheim Oatis started 13 games and recorded 52 tackles, five pass breakups and 1.5 sacks in two-plus seasons with the Crimson Tide. He could emerge as a key piece at the heart of a new-look interior defensive line unit at Colorado this fall.
March 11 marks the official start of spring practices for Oatis and the Buffs.
